Think bats, cats & witches hats!\nWe will have lots of ideas for you to try, or you can have fun inventing your own creations.\nNo knitting skills are required!\nAll materials will be provided for you and you will be able to take your knitted Halloween decoration home with you.\n \nAbout Yarn Artist Helen Davies\n\nHelen is a knit, crochet and embroidery artist based in Lancashire. She uses traditionally ‘feminine’ crafts to make bright, loud work that focuses on themes of mental health and identity, from a leftist, feminist viewpoint. Most recently, Helen has been making wearable art – lavish and decorative garments and masks, using intarsia techniques and embellishments to illustrate a narrative.\nHelen has always been interested in the intersection between craft and fine art, especially the connotations of needle crafts as women’s work, and of lower value, as a means to make functional items for the home. She wants her knitted pieces to be as intricate, bold and beautiful as possible. Learn more here ( https://www.facebook.com/hanselmeek/ ).\n \n\nWhat is Loom Knitting?\n\nLoom knitting is a technique that uses a loom instead of needles to create knitted fabric. There are three different types of loom knitting: circular knitting, single knitting, and double knitting. Different types of looms are used for each category, with circular knitting requiring a continuous ring or frame of pegs. Knitting looms are frames containing evenly-spaced pegs, and are generally round or rectangular and available in various sizes. Loom knitting is easy to learn and is great for children.\n \nThis is a drop in activity from 11am until 3pm at Darwen Market ( https://darwentowncentre.co.uk/market/ ).\n\n\n\n\nChildren must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.\nThis is a free workshop brought to the markets with funding from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and Arts Council England.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
