Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about this weekend’s lights switch on and Christmas markets event…
What time will the Christmas lights be switched on?
The Christmas lights will be switched on at 6pm on Saturday. We’ve seen quite a few people say it will be 7pm, but this is incorrect.
Stage entertainment will begin at 2pm and continue after the big switch on. The Crafty Vintage Christmas markets will be open 11am till 8pm on Saturday and 11am till 4pm on Sunday.
Please spread the word!
Will there be fireworks?
We made the decision not to have fireworks at this year’s event, and this has allowed us to invest in a variety of new entertainment.
Several factors influenced our decision, including the negative environmental impact of fireworks.
Rest assured that we have lots of exciting surprises up our sleeve, including fire dancers, walkabout performers, fairground rides and more.
Can I buy alcohol on the market square?
There will be a stall at the Christmas markets selling alcohol, including festive drinks such as mulled wine.
Please remember that this is a family event, and we kindly ask that you consume alcoholic drinks near the stall, rather than taking them into the entertainment area.
You are welcome to visit our vibrant plethora of town centre bars, pubs and restaurants before or after coming down to enjoy the entertainment.
Please enjoy responsibly.
Can I buy food on the market square?
Similarly, there will be an outdoor market stall offering artisan food such as pizzas, burgers and hotdogs, and you are more than welcome to support town centre cafes, bars and delis during the day.
We anticipate that several cafes will open later than usual for hungry visitors! Make sure you check out the social media profiles of your favourite places to see if they are putting on any festive food/drink, and changing their opening hours etc.
We’re so excited to see you this weekend for a fantastically festive weekend in Darwen! It’s going to be brilliant.
