Our newest member of the #shopdarwen scheme is the Darwen Community Helpers hub on Bridge Street, and we’re so excited to have them on board!
Darwen Community Helpers is a community based organisation founded by Samantha Nye. Their mission is to reduce loneliness and poverty in Darwen, and to be a helping hand to anyone in need.
The Bridge Street hub
Having a physical hub had been Samantha’s dream for a long time, and it finally became realty when the Bridge Street shop opened in September. You can find a huge selection of good quality secondhand clothes, shoes, accessories, books, games and more, all at very affordable prices. Money spent in the shop helps to fund the great work that Darwen Community Helpers do.
Normal opening hours are 9:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday, we recommend following them on Facebook to stay up to date.
Don’t forget to ask for a Shop Darwen entry form if you spend £5 or over. Fill it in and post it in the postbox in Darwen Market to be in with a chance of winning the prize draw!
Support for the Darwen community
Visitors are also welcome to simply pop in for a friendly chat and hot drink, and volunteers can also…
- make calls on your behalf
- print forms for you and help fill them in
- help with your CV
- help with job searches
- provide you with Internet access
- teach you how to use a computer
- teach you how to send and receive emails
- provide you with work experience
Darwen Community Helpers is a fantastic resource and we’re so pleased to have them within the Shop Darwen scheme.
