Autumn window art at Fourteen Market Street
Year 6 pupils from St Barnabas CE Primary Academy joined local artist, Lucie Cooke, and the #shopdarwen team on Wednesday 17th September to create an amazingly autumnal window display at Fourteen Market Street.
We’ve been celebrating community art and the seasons at Fourteen for over a year now – it’s a simple yet effective and creative way to add some extra colour to Darwen Town Centre, and the large glass windows at Fourteen make it the ideal spot for vibrant window art.
What does the autumn season mean to you?
Lucie got the design started with a bonfire, skeleton, haunted house, pumpkins and autumnal trees to give the pupils a starting point, and jog their memory of what the autumn season means to them. Some pupils coloured in the bonfire in eye-catching shades of red, orange and pink, some added swirling fireworks, others stuck with the Halloween theme and drew a black cat, bats and ghosts… their autumnal creativity flourished!
Adding some seasonal colour to Darwen Town Centre
Several members of the public stopped to admire the artwork in-progress, and commented how much they enjoy seeing the Darwen Town Centre window art change every few months. Be sure to take the time to have a proper look at the artwork next time you’re in town, as there’s so many little details to enjoy.
Uncovering Darwen’s rich heritage
The pupils also took part in the #shopdarwen Heritage Trail on Wednesday. This trail, also created in collaboration with Lucie, was all about sharing Darwen’s rich history and culture, and encouraging the community to support local independent retailers. The trail was free to do and was very popular over the summer holidays! It’s now come to an end, but we have a festive #shopdarwen trail in the works.
