Make some memories this February Half Term!
Darwen Market is set to come alive this February half term with a programme of free, family-friendly activities, offering creative workshops, live music, and magical performances for children and their grown-ups.
Running across multiple days during the school holidays, the programme invites families to drop in, get creative, and enjoy hands-on experiences in the heart of their local market.

CRAWLY CLIMBERS with QUGH
Saturday 14 February – Darwen Market
Children can draw and colour their own cardboard critter before adding weighted string to watch it magically climb upwards. Blending simple science with creative craft, this make-and-take workshop is perfect for curious minds.
This free drop-in session runs from 11am–3pm, near the Candy Rush stall inside Darwen Market.

THE SONGSMITHS
Monday 16 February – Darwen Market
A mobile musical factory with bags of personality, The Songsmiths create personalised jingles in as little as 15 minutes. Expect songs inspired by the markets, their traders, shoppers and passers-by – or request a tune of your own. From market anthems to Valentine dedications, no idea is too small or too silly.
Performances take place at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm at the Market Activity Hub.

CARDBOARD MENAGERIE with Sarah Grant
Wednesday 18 February – Darwen Market
Ever wanted to build your own cardboard animal? Working with cardboard artist Sarah Grant, children aged 5+ can draw, colour, cut and construct their own creatures, creating a mini zoo of imaginative designs – and taking home a favourite pet.

BALLOONATIC with Magic Gareth
Thursday 19 February – Darwen Market
Mind-blowing magic, massive balloons and laugh-out-loud moments combine in Balloonatic, a high-energy family show from Magic Gareth. With over 10 million online views, this is a spectacular performance packed with surprises you definitely shouldn’t try at home.
Shows take place at 11.30am and 1.30pm.
All activities are free to attend and are supported by funding from Arts Council England, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, and Blackburn & Darwen Markets.
Families are encouraged to drop in, take part, and enjoy a fun-filled half term at their local markets.
