Window artist, Lucie Cooke, has been in Darwen Town Centre this week to add a touch of spring to Fourteen Market Street
Let’s take a look…
A modern map of Darwen
The centrepiece of the design is a fun unconventional map of Darwen, highlighting 14 of our town’s icons:
- Darwen Tower
- Darwen Market Hall
- Darwen Library
- The Weaver Bird
- Sunnyhurst Wood
- Whitehall Park
- Bold Venture Park
- India Mill
- St Peter’s Church
- Darwen Heritage Centre
- Darwen Leisure Centre
- Junction 4 Skate Park
- Darwen Football Club
- Darwen Cricket Club
The eye catching illustration has been done in white paint pen, which really stands out on the dark windows at Fourteen. Its contemporary feel provides a pleasing contrast with the traditional Victorian style of many buildings on the map – which Darwen landmark is your favourite?
Lucie spent two days at Fourteen to complete the design, and as always received a warm welcome from the community. Many passersby stopped for a chat, with the large Darwen Tower getting lots of love…nothing new there!
The Darwen Town Centre Noticeboard at Fourteen
On the map’s left side is a new addition to the window at Fourteen, a Darwen Town Centre Events noticeboard. This will be regularly updated with upcoming news and events, so be sure to have a look when you’re in town.
Darwen Town Centre events are also listed on the online event calendar, but a physical noticeboard at a central location helps us to spread the word about all the good things going on here in Darwen. You can also subscribe to our email newsletter to stay in the know.
Cheerful yellow daffodils finish the spring window off nicely, especially with it being the first day of spring this week. We think it looks great, and feedback from Darwen Town Centre shoppers is in agreement!
Support local and #shopdarwen… it could really pay off!
Window art at Fourteen is brought to you by the #shopdarwen scheme. Shop Darwen is all about supporting Darwen Town Centre’s passionate independent retailers and encouraging everyone to shop small. Shopping locally has a far reaching impact within your community, and it could also win you £50 in vouchers…
When you spend £5 or over at a participating Shop Darwen retailer, you are eligible for an entry form for the prize draw. Simply fill in your details and drop it in the postbox in Darwen Market for a chance of winning £50 in vouchers. The more purchases you make at local businesses, the more entry forms you get, boosting your chances of winning!
