Almost 1500 families and young people enjoy opening event at brand new Darwen Youth Zone!
Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone celebrated the opening of their brand new Darwen site with a fantastic family fun day on Saturday 18th April. Local families were queuing all the way down Gary Aspden Way to see inside the state-of-the-art new building, and enjoy the free activities on offer.
A purpose-built youth centre with a range of facilities
Darwen Youth Zone is a purpose built building that opened to visitors earlier this month. There’s something for all ages, abilities and interests, including a recording studio, Making Rooms creative space, salon, gym, games cave and outdoor sporting facilities. It’s a super exciting addition to Darwen Town Centre, and is a real improvement on the previous youth centre.
Saturday’s visitors enjoyed football, face painting, balloon modelling, outdoor games, inflatables, a rodeo bull, hair styling, henna painting and much more! Mrs Dowsons Ice Cream and Farm Park in Blackburn kindly donated almost 2000 chocolate eggs, which were given away to visitors for free during the family fun day – thank you to Mrs Dowsons!
The local fire service also dropped by to show youngsters around a fire engine, and several food vendors made use of the outside area to provide tasty snacks and refreshments.
It was a brilliant day in Darwen, and the April showers didn’t put a dampener on the fun. The team at the Youth Zone worked extra hard as always to welcome the community to the centre, and their energy and enthusiasm made the day extra memorable.
