We’re thrilled to share the Easter holiday activities schedule for Darwen Market!
There’s seven fantastic FREE events to enjoy – plenty to keep the kids busy over the holidays!
Grab your diary and make a note of what’s in store for families in Darwen Town Centre this Easter…
Earth Art Workshop: Wed 3rd April
Come and join artist Winston Plowes and create beautiful patterns with natural objects.
Take this chance to find the wildness inside us all and reconnect with ourselves by making art from nature’s resources.
Help us with our sand globe garden slate circle, or be part of our mindful mandala made from the Darwen Market’s produce.
This is a drop-in session between 11am and 3pm each day, no need to book.
“Flock” by Bread & Butter Theatre: Fri 5th April
Meet Heidi and Henrietta, two Herdwick sheep who have ventured down from the Lakeland fells to graze and proudly show off their quintuplet lambs nestled in a beautiful old-fashioned pram.
They aim to bring the serenity and beauty of the Cumbrian hills to Darwen this Easter (who knows, they may even win a rosette).
It is a little-known fact that Herdwick sheep are really good at dancing, so why not join in?
The flock will be grazing between 11am and 3pm both inside Darwen Market and outside, come down and see them!
Creative Cardboard Games: Sat 6th April
Join us for a creative cardboard junk sculpture group challenge on Darwen Market Square!
Challenge your family and friends to play with the giant egg maze and race against each other to steady your ball up the giant cheese wall.
These fun games are all made with recycled cardboard and our creative workshop will help you design and build your own amazing basketball hoop game to play at home.
You might like to theme your game around superheroes or magic and there will be lots of creative ideas for all the family to enjoy!
This is a drop in session between 11am and 3pm each day.
Postcard Printing Workshop: Mon 8th April
Come and join artist Ian Halawi and print your own postcard souvenir!
Choose from image reliefs, inks and card colours to make a souvenir print. In this workshop, you’ll be shown how to ink up a relief print and use a tabletop printing press to transfer your chosen image onto a card, leaving you with a lovely relief print that you can use as a postcard to send to a loved one.
This is a drop in session between 11am and 3pm, no need to book.
Crochet Bright Blooms Workshop: Wed 10th April
Do you have old t-shirts, waiting to be repurposed into something beautiful? Join us to celebrate spring by crocheting flowers from scrap fabric!
This workshop teaches you to crochet with your fingers instead of a hook, perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike. You’ll find out how to make a vibrant daisy to plant in our shared fabric garden.
This is a drop in session between 11am and 3pm each day, no need to book.
“Birdie” by Mind the Gap Studios: Fri 12th April
Homie meets Birdie, a new friend struggling to navigate a world filled with plastics and pollution. With Homie’s help, they embark on a journey towards freedom and hope, inspiring positive action and encouraging people to stand up for what’s right.
This is a 30 minute theatre show with a 20 minute post show activity – meet the performers, learn more about climate change and create your own climate change pledge.
Performances are at 11.30am and 2pm and will take place on Darwen Market Square, weather permitting! Follow our Facebook page for updates.
Abstract Floral Painting Workshop: Sat 13th April
Soak up the colours of spring with this abstract painting class.
We will do some fun drawing exercises together before painting your very own mini-canvas inspired by the joyful bouquets of springtime!
This is a drop in session between 11am and 3pm, no need to book.
All of these fantastic free events and activities are totally free. The workshops will take place inside the hub in Darwen Market (opposite Candy Rush) and you are welcome to come down anytime between 11am and 3pm. Please supervise your children at all times.
