Community Voices Added to Begin2Sing Single
Around 50 Darreners came together in Sunbird Records last Sunday to add their voices to a track to be released as a single celebrating the Darwen community.
Paul Stuart Davies has been leading Begin2Sing workshops since August, sharing his love of singing with local residents who have never had the opportunity of professional vocal tuition.
It’s all part of Paul’s grand plan to build confidence, strengthen community ties, and promote positive mental health through the power of music – AND score an iTunes Chart number 1 single for Darwen!
Paul has written an original song that celebrates Darwen, his adopted hometown, and the strong community that exists here. He’s been busy recording solos from a range of Darwen people, including some of Paul’s younger students.
There will be 500 local voices on the single, which is also called Begin2Sing.
Paul said:
“The singers I’ve recorded for the single encompass all ages and levels of experience – from our workshop participants taking their first singing lesson, to Darwen legends like Jamie Mac and Cherrybomb.
“I’m really excited that my dream is coming together. Behind the scenes, this record has been months in the making. Next stop, Abbey Road!”
Paul’s 10 year old daughter Charly will sing the opening line of the song. She’ll be visiting the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London alongside her dad to produce the single in October.
The single is set for release in November, and will be performed live at Christmas lights switch-on events in both Darwen and Blackburn.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is supporting the initiative, having provided funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
