Independents’ Day UK is being celebrated this weekend, and it’s certainly a campaign that we can get behind here at Darwen Market.
UK Indie Day, as it’s also known, is a campaign to support our local independent businesses. They truly are the heart of our high streets (and markets!), and they rely on support from everyday shoppers, just like you.
It’s easy to overlook small businesses in favour of big chains, but shopping small with our traders at Darwen Market is a unique shopping experience that very personal. Our traders pride themselves on offering quality product and great service, and they go above and beyond to please customers.
Whether you’re a market regular or brand new to market shopping, you’re sure to receive friendly service. And don’t worry if you don’t know what you ask for – especially if you’re worried about asking for a specific weight or amount – our traders are more than happy to advise. There really is not such thing as a stupid question.
They say that you “vote” with your money, so please reflect on where you’re spending yours this weekend, and come down to Darwen Market. It’s also Darwen Festival of Fun this Saturday – so even more reason to come down to the market square!
To celebrate Independent’s Day UK, we’ve put together a quick list of five ways you can support your local market – we reckon some are a lot easier than you may think – in fact, you don’t even need to leave the comfort of your sofa to do several…
1. Come and pay us a visit!
Let’s begin with the most obvious way you can back Darwen Market this UK Indie Day… come and pay us a visit.
We rely on shoppers just like you, and every customer is greatly appreciated. You can pick up your essentials such as fresh fruit and veg from Woods, quality meat from Turners and Leemings, and baked goods from our multiple deli stalls, take advantage of our service based traders such as The Cobblers and Stitch, enjoy a bite to eat in one of our lovely cafes, and much more. There’s something for everyone at Darwen Market.
Remember that there’s plenty that you can buy here that you can’t buy elsewhere, such as local Darwen honey, traditional whinberry pies and authentic Italian deli items. And don’t forget that we also have plenty of free parking.
2. Leave us a review on Google & social media
After your visit, please leave us a review on Google and Facebook. This will only take a few minutes, but it helps more shoppers find out about our wonderful market.
While you’re at it, why not also review some of out fellow Darwen Town Centre independent businesses? We all find reviews useful, so it’s only right that we all chip in and take a few minutes to leave our own.
And if you have any feedback for us, you’re always welcome to send us a message on Facebook, too.
3. Follow us on social media and tag us in your photos
Speaking of Facebook, giving us a follow on both Facebook and Instagram is another super easy way you can support Darwen Market this Independents’ Day UK.
Social media is a great tool – it helps us to let the people of Darwen and beyond know about offers, events and news. Every single like, follow and comment makes a difference, and helps more people to discover our market.
You can support us even further by tagging us in your photos of your Darwen Market shopping trips and hauls. Made something delish for an at home date night using produce from our traders? We’d LOVE to see, and we may even reshare.
4. Sign up to the Darwen Town Centre newsletter
Another way to both keep up with Darwen Market and Darwen Town Centre news, plus show your support this UK Indie Day, is to subscribe to the Darwen Town Centre newsletter.
This email newsletter is a convenient way to keep up to date with town centre events, such as the free family entertainment we host at Darwen Market, plus #shopdarwen news and much more. We promise it’s not spam, and you won’t be contacted constantly – plus, you can unsubscribe anytime you like.
5. Spread the word with friends and family
Finally, never underestimate the power of word and mouth recommendations.
Letting your friends and family know about your great shopping experience at Darwen Market is an effective and easy way to support your local market.
This Independents’ Day UK, we encourage you to chat with your friends and family about shopping habits and why it’s important to back your local independent businesses. Remember, by doing so you are having a direct positive impact on your local economy and on the livelihoods of local people.
So spread the word and get people thinking.
