We’re pleased to be hosting three free family events in Darwen Town Centre this May half term…
Arabic Calligraphy Workshop: Saturday 25th May, 11am – 3pm
Join us for a hands-on workshop on Arabic Nastaliq Calligraphy with Razwan. Have a go at using traditional bamboo pens and hand mixed ink – all abilities welcome, no knowledge of Arabic needed to create these stunning shapes and patterns.
This is a drop in session at Darwen Market between 11am and 3pm, no need to book.
Suitable for ages 4+.
Darwen Live is also taking place in Darwen Town Centre on 25th May, why not enjoy some live music before or after taking part?
The Elves and The Shoemaker: Wednesday 29th May at 11am and 1:30pm
When two magical elves, Red and Lo, arrive to help the local shoemaker, they realise they need to put themselves into someone else’s shoes to understand what the customers need. But will Lo learn enough to make the perfect pair of shoes, and earn their magical hat bell?! Come along, join in, and find out!
A new retelling of the traditional tale, exploring empathy and kindness, with songs and silliness.
Performances will take place at Darwen Market at 11am and 1:30pm.
No need to book, just come along and enjoy.
Hodman & Sally Walking Performance: Friday 31st May, 11am – 3pm
Hodman and Sally have lived happily by themselves for hundreds of years, blissfully unaware of the changing world around them. Now they have ventured out in search of fame, fortune and friendship, enjoying a second youth touring the world with their possessions strapped to their backs.
The delightfully captivating Hodman and Sally are a wee pair of wonderful wanderers from the proud country of Oblivia. Despite being completely ‘Oblivious’ (and proud of it!) Hodman and Sally will comically attempt to understand the new and baffling world around them, chatting with everyone they meet along the way.
This is a walkabout style performance that will be taking place in and around Darwen Market between 11am and 3pm.
Please note that children must be supervised by a parent or carer at all times during these events.
(These free events are supported with funding from Arts Council England, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and Blackburn & Darwen Markets. The activities are organised and managed by Culturapedia and Spot On Lancashire.)
Check out the Events Calendar for further details.
